India's Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge Opens in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Sudarshan Setu ("Bridge of Splendor"), India's longest cable-stayed bridge, in Dwarka, Gujarat, today.

Longest cable bridge Ariel view in Gujarat.

The 2.3-kilometer bridge connects the mainland town of Okha with Beyt Dwarka island, a vital link for pilgrims visiting the revered Dwarkadhish temple. Construction, costing ₹978 crore, began in 2017 with Modi laying the foundation stone, emphasizing its role in connecting "old and new Dwarka."

Featuring four lanes and a total width of 27.2 meters, the bridge offers additional pedestrian access with 2.5-meter-wide footpaths on both sides. Uniquely, the footpaths are adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna, reflecting the cultural significance of the location.

Previously known as "Signature Bridge," the structure was officially renamed "Sudarshan Setu" before its inauguration. Beyt Dwarka island lies close to Okha port, about 30 kilometers from Dwarka town, where the iconic Dwarkadhish temple stands.

"Delighted to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu today," said Prime Minister Modi in a social media post, "a bridge that connects lands and people. It stands vibrantly as a testament of our commitment to development and progress."
